Chapter 378: A Feast of Chaos

Chapter 378: A Feast of Chaos

Azrynn lowered her empty skewer, her yellow eyes fixed on the whirlwind of claws and threads still clashing across the clearing. Her voice carried a note of genuine wonder, tinged with the bewilderment of someone who had just witnessed a sandstorm in a teacup."They’re still going at it... Are they always like this?"

Ignis, now sprawled on her back with her hands folded over her full belly, let out a low, satisfied groan. Her voice came out lazy, dreamy, carrying the weight of a meal well enjoyed.

"Mm... always. They fight over the stupidest things. It’s honestly exhausting just watching them."

Adam, still seated by the fire, shot Ignis a pointed look. His voice carried a note of mild reproach.

"Don’t lie down right after eating, Ignis. You’ll get cramps."

Ignis let out a long, exaggerated sigh, but pushed herself upright with visible reluctance. She settled into a cross-legged position, her flames flickering in a half-hearted pout.

"Fine, fine..."

Isolde’s gaze drifted to the two combatants, her pale eyes tracking their movements with cool analysis. Her voice was calm, but carried a note of genuine concern.

"They’re both too dangerous to be at odds with each other. If this continues, it could become a serious problem once we reach demon territory."

Adam leaned back on his palms, tilting his head to look up at the darkening sky. The first stars were beginning to emerge, scattered like scattered diamonds against the deepening blue. His voice carried a note of weary resignation.

"I know. I’ve been trying to think of a way to get them to get along. But honestly? I don’t even know where to start."

Ignis tilted her head, her golden eyes narrowing as she tried to picture it. Her voice came out flat, utterly devoid of conviction.

"Alice and Lilith... holding hands... walking peacefully together..."

She paused. Her face scrunched up, and she shook her head slowly, her voice carrying a note of finality.

"...Yeah, no. That’s not happening."

Isolde let out a slow, dry breath, her voice carrying the same resigned certainty.

"I agree. It’s impossible."

Azrynn glanced between them, her yellow eyes carrying a flicker of uncertainty. Then she let out a small, hesitant laugh, her voice carrying a note of reluctant admission.

"I’ve only just joined this group, but... even I can tell that’s not going to work." She paused, tilting her head. "They’re both too stubborn and neither of them knows how to back down."

Adam let out a low, weary sigh, his gaze still fixed on the emerging stars. His voice carried a note of quiet resignation.

"Yeah. I know."

A deafening CRASH echoed across the clearing as Alice’s attack obliterated a cluster of trees, sending splinters and leaves flying in all directions. She stood amidst the destruction, her chest heaving, her dark violet eyes blazing with fierce satisfaction.

"Hah! Feel that, you damn spider?!"

But her triumph was short-lived. Her thoughts came to a sudden, grinding halt. A cold prickle ran down her spine—that familiar, unsettling sensation of being hunted.

Lilith emerged from the shadows behind her, Soulreaver gleaming in her grip. Her crimson eyes locked onto Alice, and a wave of psychic pressure slammed into her mind.

"[Crimson Gaze]!"

Alice froze, her body locking up for just a fraction of a second—just long enough for Lilith’s blade to descend.

Alice twisted at the last moment, her form flickering as she used a void blink to evade the strike. The blade passed inches from her throat, close enough to ruffle her fur.

Lilith straightened, her voice carrying a note of mock disappointment as she ran her fingers along the edge of Soulreaver.

"Hmm~ you’re more slippery than I expected."

Alice’s voice came out in a low, furious growl, her claws extending as dark violet void energy flared around her.

"I’ll tear you apart!"

She lunged forward, creating multiple clones of herself that surrounded Lilith from every angle. Each one attacked simultaneously, a coordinated storm of claws and void energy.

Lilith’s crimson eyes swept the chaos, cool and observant. She didn’t flinch. Her voice carried a note of dry, almost bored certainty.

"You think illusions will work on me?"

She moved directly toward the real Alice, her blade already swinging. But as she closed the distance, she felt something wrap around her limbs. A binding of void energy, anchoring her in place.

Alice’s voice carried a note of sharp satisfaction, her dark violet eyes gleaming with hard-won triumph.

"Not just illusions. I made sure you couldn’t escape."

Lilith’s form flickered, trying to dissolve into the shadows beneath her feet—but Alice’s void energy locked onto her, anchoring her in place.

"You think you’re the only one who can play with shadows?"

Alice’s voice dropped, cold and threatening.

"Now. Apologize."

Lilith’s smile remained firmly in place, unshaken. Her voice carried a light, playful note that only made Alice’s fury burn hotter.

"I don’t want to~"

And then she spat a strand of silk directly into Alice’s face.

Alice’s hands flew to her face, claws scraping at the sticky webbing. She stumbled back, tearing the silk away with a furious growl, her eyes burning with indignant rage.

"You—!"

When she finally cleared her vision, Lilith was already ready. Her threads hung suspended in the air—a vast, intricate web of silver silk, each strand connected to dozens of smaller threads that pulsed with faint, deadly light. Lilith had prepared her counterattack while Alice was distracted.

A slow, mocking smile curved Lilith’s lips.

"I’ve been waiting, you know. I was starting to think you’d just stand there and let me win."

Alice’s claws extended, dark violet void energy surging around her body. She raised both hands, and a dense, solid sphere of void energy materialized above her—a massive, pulsing mass that slowly took the shape of a giant cat’s head, its maw split open to reveal rows of teeth. It was an attack forged from pure, concentrated void energy, condensed into something alive.

"You think a few threads can stop me?!"

Alice’s void cat snarled, its maw widening as she poured more energy into it.

"I’ll tear through your web and you with it!"

The two attacks surged toward each other—Lilith’s web of silver silk and Alice’s void cat.

Then, a figure appeared between them. Adam raised both hands, and caught both attacks mid-flight.

The silk shredded against his palm. The void cat’s teeth shattered against his fingers. He stood at the center of the destruction, his expression calm, his voice carrying a note of quiet, commanding authority.

"Enough. Both of you."
