Chapter 41: The Valley
Chapter 41: The Valley
Ron sneered as he watched Bard lead the convoy through the city gates.
The people in the eastern valley are mostly from the Dehea territory.
Ron wasn't worried at all about whether Angus would retaliate against them.
Thun and his men operated in goblin squads, and what's most abundant in the Blackthorn Wasteland is, of course, goblins.
As for Harland Territory, judging from their willingness to trade intelligence, they do not intend to antagonize Ashwood Territory.
Ron also sent people to keep a close watch on the movements of Harland territory, but found no signs of any large-scale military operations.
After all, De Gea's goal was Wenger's territory, but in the end it became Ron's stepping stone.
Bard entered Ashwood and watched as it changed daily, feeling an unprecedented sense of unease.
Lord Ashwood stood on the city wall, coldly watching his own convoy.
Feeling guilty, he respectfully bowed to Ron on the city wall.
Ron nodded expressionlessly.
This was a way to send Bard to spy on the enemy and, incidentally, lull themselves into a false sense of security.
Bud quickly handed over the reins to Mrs. Moriel, and when he saw the low-lying rock potatoes on the pit floor, he also showed surprise.
Rock potatoes can only be grown on cliffs 25 meters high, a fact known to almost every wasteland lord.
But this house is only ten meters high at most, so it's not suitable either!
Bud wanted to go see, but Mrs. Moriel stopped him, with Doron watching intently from the side.
Bard wasn't embarrassed by being stopped; he quickly changed the subject: "Hehe, this time, we're exchanging 18,000 red bricks for 6,000 jin of potato starch. Please check them."
Mrs. Moriel smiled and nodded, then sent six maids to count the potato starch.
Duolong then sent a team to haul away the red bricks.
I personally kept an eye on the people Bard brought, preventing them from moving around freely within the territory.
In the eastern river valley.
Bader bowed respectfully to Devon.
"Young Master, we can't delay any longer. Ashwood Territory is developing too fast. Their city walls are already visible; goblins can no longer breach them. The dungeons within the territory are almost gone, and there are many more houses, especially those two three-story buildings..."
As Devon listened to Bud's report, his expression grew increasingly grim.
He suddenly remembered Novia's faint smile before he left.
At the time, he thought Novia was laughing out of anger, but now it seems that Novia was preparing to laugh at him.
"That bastard had already guessed that Ashwood's understanding would develop so quickly."
Devon was so angry he was itching to fight back. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He slapped Bud across the face, sending him flying.
"roll!"
Bud got up from the ground, half of his face swollen. He didn't wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth, but just lowered his head and glanced at Devon's back out of the corner of his eye.
Novia is right.
You won't live long with someone like that.
He turned and left the valley, his steps more steady than when he came.
Bard initially thought Novia was making a mountain out of a molehill, but now it seems he was right. If Devon inherits the territory, let alone the hunting team captain, he'll probably kill him if Devon is in a bad mood.
"Devin de Gea!"
Bard slowly turned around, glanced back at the valley, and continued walking forward.
He wouldn't tell Devon how aggressive the lord of Ashwood was, as long as he knew there were people in the valley.
"Do you think he'll let you live peacefully in the valley?"
That night, an arrow with a strip of cloth tied to it was shot into the city wall.
Three days later, a goblin army of five thousand attacked, while spies lay in ambush in the eastern valley. (Thirty)
After reading the strip of cloth, Fanta, who was in charge of the night patrol, immediately ran to the No. 1 pit courtyard and woke Ron up.
Ron took the strip of cloth in a daze, glanced at it, and then his eyes suddenly froze.
He sat up, held the strip of cloth up to the light of the oil lamp and looked at it again, and all sleepiness vanished.
"There are people in the eastern valley? I already knew. But I didn't expect there to be thirty of them."
Fanta knelt on one knee: "My lord, I will personally lead men there and capture all thirty of them."
"Thirty men of theirs have managed to lie in ambush in the valley, so their strength is naturally not weak. You can't do it alone." Ron shook his head with a smile: "Summon all the knight guards, the Green Squad, and the crossbowmen."
"Since you dare to spy on me at my doorstep, you'll have to pay the price."
The Green Squad of thirty men, the crossbowmen squad of forty men, and the knight guard of nearly thirty men were the true elite of Ashwood Territory.
The Green Squad, including Thun, consists of five goblin warriors with the rank of official knight, while the rest are basically knight apprentices.
Needless to say, the Knight Guard was at least a Knight Apprentice, with eighteen of them being Ron's original followers and the other twelve originally from Wenger Territory.
There is one Earth Knight, twenty official knights, and the rest are all knight apprentices.
The guards who followed Ron back then were at least full-fledged knights, with not a single knight apprentice. Among them, Doron and Hilden were both at the peak of their knighthood, just one step away from becoming Earth Knights.
The hundred men quietly left the territory and cautiously crept eastward.
Ron hadn't made a move against the people in the valley because he didn't know how many people were in the valley and was afraid of being taken advantage of.
"Thun, you lead the Green Squad and the Doron Scout Squad to attack from both sides of the valley simultaneously. Hilden and Da Vinci, lead the remaining knights to block the river mouth. The crossbowmen follow behind me and await my orders."
"yes!"
Late at night, in the valley, a knight apprentice on guard duty in De Gea's territory was urinating when, a second later, his mouth was covered.
Just before he died, he saw a big goblin with camouflage painted on his face. The goblin had a cold expression and, after snapping his neck, threw him into a pit next to him.
Just then, someone caught the body without making a sound. A knight then climbed out of the pit and returned to his original sentry post.
Another knight, who was also on lookout duty, went over to say hello, only to have his throat slit a second later.
The body had just been laid down when someone else came out to take its place.
The two sentries at the second checkpoint were standing closer together than those at the first.
Duolong gestured for an illustration. He waited until one of them turned his back before touching him.
But we were still a step too late.
As the slain sentry fell, his foot struck a clay pot on the ground, making a crisp sound.
These were clearly warning devices they had set up in advance.
Another sentry turned around abruptly.
Thun lunged out of the shadows, plunging a dagger into his throat, while his other hand tightly covered his mouth.
The body fell, without uttering a second sound.
The valley returned to silence, but Doron's back was soaked with cold sweat.
Less than five minutes.
Inside the valley, the men at the three outposts were replaced by scouts.
Just as Thun was about to sneak towards the camp, he was stopped by Doron.
"Don't act rashly. Wait for the lord's next instructions. If you are surrounded by the enemy, the few of us left won't be able to save you."
After thinking for a moment, Thun nodded slightly.
Soon, they heard the rhythmic calls of partridges.
"Three light, one heavy, and one long!" Duolong listened three times before confirming, and then emphasized it twice.
"We can move now."
Inside the Devon camp, there were four tents, and only four knights patrolled around them. Because of the torches, Ron was able to accurately pinpoint the location of the camp.
"Southeast, at a four or five-degree angle, fire the arrows!"
Ron suddenly waved his hand.
"put!"
The bowstring snapped, and forty arrows pierced the night sky, embedding themselves in the camp.
The two patrolling knights fell to the ground with a thud; one was shot through the neck, and the other was hit in the thigh, kneeling on the ground screaming in agony.
"Put it on again!"
A second volley of arrows followed, pinning two more knights who were trying to draw their swords to the spot.
The four tents were riddled with holes by the rain of arrows. The people inside were awakened. Some rushed out with their pants up, while others crawled on the ground looking for weapons.
Ron lowered his hand, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Green Squad, move out!"
