Chapter 481 - 478 – The First Victim
Chapter 481 - 478 – The First Victim
Mušmaḫḫū’s roar, filled with pure rage, continued to echo like thunder from hell throughout the giant cavern. The vibration was so devastating that new cracks spread across the ceiling like a giant spiderweb ready to collapse at any moment. Large and small stone fragments rained down, slamming into the Wild Bear tanks’ shields with bone-rattling BRAAANGGG! sounds that made ears ring. Thick dust mixed with poisonous purple vapor from the monster’s blood filled the air, blurring vision further and making every breath feel like swallowing hot knives. The stench of sulfur, scorched flesh, and rotten blood burned everyone’s throats. The ancient dark aura of Tiamat pressed down even harder, as if the entire cavern were the lungs of the ancient monster breathing in fury, ready to destroy all living things inside it.The remaining six heads moved with deadly coordination, as if sharing a single collective mind filled with hatred. The head previously injured by Sylvia’s Purification Nova still hung limply, but thick black blood gushed from the gaping burn wound. Every drop immediately formed larger, tougher elite blood monsters with sharp crystal claws and bodies covered in poisonous spikes. The other heads gave no chance to breathe. They unleashed endless attacks: thick purple acid raining down like hellfire, black lightning cracking like the whips of an enraged god, and nebula poison mist spreading rapidly, poisoning the air within dozens of meters until thick purple fog blanketed the battlefield.
"Don’t let your guard down for even a second!" Sylvia shouted, her voice cold yet sharp as it cut through the chaos of battle. The white flame on her body burned brighter, forming a faint aura shaped like holy dark wings that fluttered gently on her back. Her red eyes blazed with focus, her mind racing to calculate every opening and threat. They’re strong... but we must be stronger, she thought.
Wild Bear held the front line. Their burly bodies, already covered in cuts and burns, fought desperately. Gorn Thunderfist roared like a wild bear as he slashed elite blood monsters with his lightning-enchanted war axe. SCHLAAAKKK! One swing destroyed a blood monster’s head in a spray of black blood, but corrosive splashes immediately sprayed onto his chest armor. ZZZZZZZSSSTTT! The acid began melting through the thick iron plates, releasing stinging black smoke.
"Arghh! Hold position!" shouted Thrain, a massive tank with a giant shield who was the pillar of the front line. His muscular body held back the wave of blood slamming against him, his feet planted firmly on the cracked stone floor. But disaster struck in an instant. One of Mušmaḫḫū’s central heads spewed black lightning directly at him, as if the monster had already targeted the weak point.
KRRRAAAAKKKK!!!
The black lightning struck Thrain’s shield with devastating force. The legendary steel shield exploded into pieces like glass, shards flying everywhere. The lightning pierced his armor, burning flesh and bone. The large man’s body jerked violently, black smoke rising from his chest and arms. His veins bulged visibly under skin that blackened rapidly as the lightning’s poison spread like wildfire through his body.
"Thrain!!!" Gorn roared, trying to get closer, but a new wave of blood monsters born from the blood pools blocked him. He slashed furiously, but it was too late.
Thrain tried to stand once more, his knees trembling uncontrollably. His usually spirited eyes grew dim as black blood poured heavily from his mouth and nose. "Ka... kian... protect... the others..." he rasped, his voice nearly gone. His body convulsed violently before finally collapsing onto the cavern floor with a heavy thud. His final breath left a cloud of purple vapor. The first victim had fallen from a tough tank from Wild Bear who had fought alongside Gorn for many years, dead in a horrifying instant.
Thrain’s death triggered an explosion of rage across the entire team. Wild Bear roared in unison, their eyes reddening from grief and fury. "For Thrain!!!" they shouted as they charged even more ferociously, their axes and swords slashing blood monsters with reckless abandon despite losing one of their brothers.
On the other side of the battlefield, Party Eternal was also starting to struggle. Elara Silverwind tried to maintain her ice barriers while continuously unleashing Elemental Storm. Her silver hair was soaked with sweat and blood splashes, her face full of tension. The nebula poison mist grew thicker, making breathing increasingly difficult.
One of her members, Lirael a gentle and dedicated supporting healer was too slow to dodge when one of Mušmaḫḫū’s heads suddenly spewed corrosive acid from a blind spot.
SSSSSSPLLLAAASSHHH!
Thick purple acid sprayed directly onto Lirael’s shoulder and chest. Her scream pierced the ears, cutting through the battle noise. "Aaaahhh!!! Help...!!!" Her white robe melted like wax instantly. Her smooth skin burned severely, exposing red flesh, and even her shoulder bone gleamed briefly before the poison crept into her bloodstream. Her body collapsed forward, convulsing violently as she clawed at the air with blistered hands. The smell of burning flesh filled the surrounding air.
Elara tried to approach with tear-filled eyes full of rage. "Lirael! Hold on!" She cast a healing spell, but black lightning from another head forced her to roll back and dodge. Lirael let out increasingly weak sobs, her beautiful eyes filled with pain before they dimmed forever. Her body was half-melted by the corrosive acid. The second victim had fallen a talented healer who had always cured her comrades with a gentle smile, now dead in a horrific way.
"We’ve lost two people!" Elara shouted, her voice trembling with a mix of anger, grief, and steel resolve. "Don’t let Thrain and Lirael’s deaths be in vain! Attack with everything you have!"
Sylvia felt rage burning in her usually cold undead chest. The pain of these comrades’ deaths touched something inside her. "Alicia, push the debuffs to the maximum! Stacia, buff as strongly as possible! We strike back right now!"
Alicia bit her lip until it bled, her blue eyes blazing with determination. Her silver staff trembled violently as she gathered mana to the very limit of her body. "Ultimate Debuff Domain: Blood Paralysis, Total Corrosion, Soul Decay!"
A wave of dark blue magic spread like a dark tsunami, engulfing Mušmaḫḫū and all the surrounding blood monsters. The ancient monster’s movements slowed drastically, as if time itself were holding it back. Its flowing blood thickened like black mud, its wounds rotted from within, and even the monster’s soul seemed disturbed by the power of decay.
Stacia, her hands shaking from extreme mana exhaustion, flipped through her grimoire rapidly. "Grand Buff: Divine Ward, Berserk Strength, Infinite Mana Flow!"
A far brighter grayish-purple light exploded and enveloped the remaining team members. Their physical strength surged wildly, defense increased sharply, and mana flow forcibly recovered though at the risk of later bodily damage. Several Wild Bear members roared as new power flowed into their muscles.
Sylvia stepped forward to the front line without hesitation. The white flame on her body erupted into a full, dazzling aura, forming beautiful yet terrifying black-and-white holy wings on her back. "War Sun Flame – Judgment Ray!"
She raised both hands. Two thick beams of white flame shot forward like holy lasers from heaven, piercing directly into two of Mušmaḫḫū’s heads. WOOOOOSSSSHHHHH!!! The heads roared in terrible agony. Their black-reddish scales shattered, the flesh inside burned until white bone was visible, and holy white smoke rose high.
Mušmaḫḫū retaliated with far greater fury. Its massive body shook violently. Blood from its wounds exploded outward like a volcanic eruption, summoning hundreds of elite blood monsters at once. Its seven heads (including the injured one slowly regenerating with new flesh) unleashed a combined deadly barrage: acid storms, mass black lightning, and thickening nebula poison mist that reduced visibility to nearly zero.
KRRRRAAAAAKKKK!!! BOOOOMMMM! SSSSSSSSSSTTTTT!
The cavern shook violently as if it would collapse. Several Wild Bear members were blasted backward, their armor cracking and bleeding. One more nearly got drenched in acid, but Sol fired a golden laser just in time to block the attack.
Sylvia, Alicia, and Stacia fought relentlessly in the midst of the chaos. Sylvia’s Chains of Abyss shot out from the shadows, piercing and binding elite blood monsters before they were destroyed by holy white flame. Alicia continued stacking debuffs until her hands trembled and thin blood trickled from her nose. Stacia cast mass illusions to divert attention, creating dozens of fake team shadows to draw the monsters’ attacks.
Even so, the pressure became unbearably heavy. Mušmaḫḫū grew even angrier. Its body began emitting a dark red aura that made everyone’s blood pulse abnormally, as if it wanted to explode from within. One head attacked directly toward Sylvia with extraordinary speed.
GRRAAAHHH!
Its giant mouth opened wide, spewing acid and lightning simultaneously. Sylvia dodged with shadow-like speed, but acid splashes still touched her left arm. Her undead skin hissed violently, but her powerful regeneration immediately kicked in. The sharp pain only made her smile wider, her red eyes gleaming with joy. "Good... stronger. An opponent like this... is worth killing."
The battle continued without pause. Mušmaḫḫū’s roars, the screams of blood monsters, magical explosions, clashing weapons, and team shouts echoed endlessly in the increasingly ruined cavern. The cavern floor was already covered in white ash mixed with thick black blood pools that pulsed like living creatures. Two victims had already fallen, and the pressure kept rising. The remaining team fought with all their strength and fury, but it was clear Mušmaḫḫū was still far from defeated seemingly growing stronger with every drop of blood spilled.
Sylvia glanced at her two sisters, Alicia and Stacia, who were exhausted but refused to give up. Sol and Qilin were also fighting with everything they had beside them, faces full of determination.
"This is still far from over," Sylvia whispered as she summoned more brightly burning white flames in both palms. "But we will not lose. Not after losing them."
