Chapter 47 The Black Sorcerer's Notebook
Chapter 47 The Black Sorcerer's Notebook
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, at the city gate of Baiyin Town.
Cassius personally came to the city gate to see them off.
Stopped in front of them was Cassius's carriage, the Snow Deer chariot.
"Wow! That's great! Finally, I don't have to run around by myself anymore!" Jack looked at the luxurious carriage with great joy.
God knows how badly he was tormented by Rom's enhanced [Windwalk] spell.
Although he was using wind elemental magic to help him move quickly, after running for several days, his legs were already sore and aching, almost like they didn't belong to him.
Moreover, the distance to Red Dragon City is much farther than the distance between these two towns!
Now, seeing a car to ride in makes me feel like it's the happiest thing in the world.
"It's the dead of winter now, the wind and snow in the wilderness are unpredictable, and there are even monsters roaming around."
Cassius reached out and stroked the snow deer's glossy fur, saying softly, "The snow deer has a natural affinity for ice and snow, which will make your journey safer."
After saying goodbye to Cassius, the group boarded the carriage.
After Elena skillfully flicked the reins, the two snow deer let out a neigh and obediently began to pull the carriage steadily southward.
……
The main road outside Baiyin Town was repaired years ago and is relatively flat.
In addition, the carriage's base seemed to be engraved with some kind of energy-absorbing array, so you could hardly feel any bumps while sitting inside.
The carriage was covered with thick animal skin blankets, which completely insulated it from the fierce wind and snow outside, making it very warm.
With nothing else to do, Rom took out the book of "Earth Elf Language" that Hamelin had given him before he left.
This is a reference book similar to a dictionary, containing a large number of Elven characters and corresponding to the common script of this continent.
Rombe had an exceptional talent for studying codes and characters. He patiently began to compare the strange symbols on the black booklet with the word roots in the "Earthling Language".
However, after comparing the data for less than ten minutes, Rom's brows furrowed more and more.
The vocabulary structure in this dictionary of Earthlings doesn't seem to fit into the little black booklet at all!
Not only is the grammar and logic completely nonsensical, but many of the similar-looking characters have no corresponding definitions in the dictionary.
The two differ considerably.
"What's going on? Did the old man lie to me?"
Rom touched his chin. "Or is it that the writing in this booklet isn't actually Elven, but just looks somewhat similar?"
"No, that's not right."
Romü quickly dismissed the idea, saying, "Given Hamelin's rigid personality, if he's so certain, the answer must be hidden in this book."
The carriage moved smoothly through the snow.
Jack, who was standing next to him, couldn't understand the scribbled characters at all. Unable to stay warm in the carriage, he soon put his hands in his pockets, leaned against the corner of the carriage, and started snoring.
He didn't give up. He rubbed his eyes and continued to bury himself in those tedious characters, searching for patterns.
Luo Mu didn't know how long he had been studying until his eyes started to sting. Only then did he close the book, lift the curtain of the carriage, and look outside.
It turned out that it was already night outside, and the carriage had been traveling all day.
It didn't snow tonight, the night sky was clear, and a half-moon hung in the sky, casting shadows of the black pine forest by the roadside. The view was still fairly clear.
Romé noticed that a diamond-shaped crystal was embedded in the door frame on the outside of the carriage, and it was emitting a dazzling white light.
"We've been traveling all day."
Elena, who was sitting in front, turned around and said softly:
"The teacher instructed that when traveling in the wilderness at night, we must activate this [Holy Light Crystal]. Its aura can keep some low-level magical beasts away."
"It really is a well-equipped vehicle," Rom replied with a smile.
Just then, Rom suddenly sensed something strange in his vision.
Through the open curtains, a ray of moonlight shone precisely on the book "The Language of the Earth Spirits" lying on his lap.
The old, worn book was emitting a faint blue glow.
"Um?"
Luo Mu's heart stirred, and he immediately moved the book to the place with the most moonlight, and by the moonlight, he opened the pages again.
His pupils trembled.
On the yellowed pages, lines of blue text, invisible during the day, suddenly appeared!
These glowing words not only covered the original handwriting, but even the layout and word order were changed.
Luo Mu paused for two seconds, then suddenly remembered the old man's rambling, irrelevant remark:
My full name is Tyrael Hamelin, which in Elvish means "protected by the moonlight."
"moonlight…"
So that's it, that was the old man's hint.
Only under the moonlight will the true contents of this book be revealed.
Looking at the page full of blue fluorescent characters, Luo Mu couldn't help but shake his head and smile bitterly.
Old man, you really are a riddle teller.
This fits the old man's stubborn character perfectly; he's given it to you, but he doesn't want to give it to you directly, which is quite awkward.
Rom concentrated intently on comparing the words again using the [Earth Elf Language] dictionary.
This time, I was able to translate and understand it smoothly.
The little black booklet had only a few sentences on the first page:
"To my best friend, Lester."
I will never forget our journey together in exploring the truth of the world.
Leicester?
Is it the black sorcerer who died in the mine?
It seems that this is indeed a diary.
Turn to the second page.
"Astral year 482, deep winter."
This is the real reason I left the guild. The magic in this world is far more vast and mysterious than those powerful elders of the guild defined it.
Among those ancient ruins that were burned, I touched another power: the dark element.
It is the opposite of all known elements; it can instantly destroy life, or it can reconstruct life!
This is not heresy at all; it is the Creator's authority.
Unfortunately, the guild feared this power and sealed it away as a completely forbidden technique.
But this notebook records the fragments of forbidden dark arts I collected during my twenty years of wandering the continent.
...
"Dark element..."
Rom stared at the handwriting in the diary, his eyes lighting up.
So this is the spell recorded in that black crystal!
The owner of this notebook was actually a sorcerer who specialized in the study of dark elements.
Romú eagerly turned to the next page.
[Dark Element: One of the Source Spells, Flesh Drain].
The following lengthy description was all too familiar to Luo Mu. It was the very spell he had entered into the system just two days prior.
The following pages are filled with densely packed records.
"It seems this is a notebook recording various dark magic spells!"
Just as Rom was excitedly preparing to continue reading, he suddenly felt a sharp pain deep in his brain.
It was a feeling of intense fatigue.
It was as if several large-scale spells had been cast in succession, causing his vision to go black in waves.
"What happened?"
He quickly brought up the system panel and gasped in shock.
