Chapter 548: Sophia vs Osiris
Chapter 548: Sophia vs Osiris
Shing!!! Shing!!!Sophia brandished her sword, sitting within her tent, inside the war camp of the Unified Army. The complicated thoughts overwhelmed her mind.
She could not help but think for a moment what Axel would say if she asked the Runecaster about the words asked by Osiris.
Sophia let out a soft sigh and stopped her messy train of thought. Her eyes turned cold, a ruthless expression on her face, filled with killing intent, because...
Today marks exactly a week since that moment of Osiris’s statement.
Today is the day when the ceasefire ends.
Today is the day of the dawn of the final clash.
Both forces would go all out.... to establish the rightful victor.
And today is the day she would kill Osiris, for planting that doubt within her. She would answer the demon’s query by ending his life.
Today would be the day she would become the Doom for the Demon of Despair.
Sophia stood and walked out of the tent as her expression returned to a cold, detached state.
Waves of soldiers greeted her respectfully at the same time; the moment her figure became visible, uncaring of the greetings, Sophia ordered, "Ready the troops of all divisions. We march within half an hour..."
Technically speaking, Sophia herself did not have any solid commanding authority, as she did not have any specific position bestowed upon her.
Yet, no one dared to disobey her orders, not even the less than 10 peak-4th-phase existences.
Because she remained the one and only Valkyrie, coupled with her mighty display of power in the last battle, her authority was absolute.
Despite Lucien still being the commander in chief by title, if Sophia ordered, her words would be given greater priority due to the respect she gained through proving her great might as the Valkyrie.
Normally, she would not have bothered to take over the chain of command. But since she had a tough demon to crack and wanted to win this last battle with an overwhelming advantage.
She decided to deploy the initial commands.
The sounds of countless footsteps could be heard throughout the enormous camp; Sophia also began moving along the central roadway between the camps.
Figures appeared on both sides of her, one after another.
Lucien Suncrest, initial-3rd-phase.
Enrick Samartan, initial-3rd-phase.
Thorian Blackvale, initial-3rd-phase.
Jaden Redmar, initial-3rd-phase.
As for Ken Dusker and Vyra Vanelis, they had been called back from the war by the orders of their family.
Heinz Gil had not yet completely recovered, and in a battle of this scale. The feat he pulled off in the clash of the 2nd phase forces could not be replicated this time.
For these reasons, the Calamity Warlord had been benched.
Sophia looked to the side and saw the golden-haired sunflower princess looking at her with a worried gaze. She nodded, and Sophia returned the gesture with a subtle smile that spoke of her inner confidence.
Lumina had been brought to the human army’s camp after the declaration of the week-long ceasefire.
Lumina is currently a peak 2nd phase seeker; she is an Arcane Runecaster. After she awakened the Luminaries bloodline, she developed a specialty in her Arcane magic.
Just like how Sophia’s Arcana is ’Radiation Magic’.
Thorain’s Arcana is ’Energy Adaptation’
Lumina inherited the Arcana of ’Restoration Magic’, due to the effects of her bloodline.
As such, she could heal and mend many serious and life-threatening injuries of countless powerhouses through the use of this magic.
Though Lumina’s healing did not work on the same principle as the usual healing magic performed by most of the mage branch specialists.
It was far superior in every possible way.
Sophia shook her head and erased those thoughts as she hovered in the air; on the ground were thousands of third-phase seekers, from initial to peak.
In the skies were hundreds to fewer than a dozen 4th-phase seekers, ranging from initial to peak within that phase.
Sophia’s gaze traveled afar, peering into an avalanche of deathly storm that was encroaching in this direction. But her eyes were searching for only one individual, and eventually she found him.
That harrowing skull mask, the daunting red horns, and the red demonic pupils filled with ruthlessness.
As if noticing her gaze, piercing through all the veil and obstruction, Osiris looked upon her, as the eyes of the two most prominent entities from both sides met in this bout of final clash between human and ghost race forces.
A subtle tremor ran through the very air, creating an unknown expansive pressure from the central point of the battlefield.
Booooom!!!
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
Two consecutive bangs reverberated through the air, one from the Unified armies’ side, the other from the Affiliated armies’ side, with no warning, coordination, or consideration.
Sophia and Osiris both shot ahead from the rest of the army. They went ahead to clash head-on against each other with a vicious countenance.
The human army was not surprised by the course of events as Lucien took charge; Sophia had instructed the key leader figures of the army on how to proceed and which strategy to follow; she did not personally need to issue commands.
After all, the Valkyrie shone the brightest when fighting alone and not needing to hold back against her enemy.
Their speed was so great that the sound barrier was broken multiple times in succession.
Sophia saw the figure of Osiris bring out a pulsing reddish Great Sword etched with runes. She did not hesitate as she also manifested a complete red sword in her hand.
Sophia was in her Saint aspect as she poured an immense amount of Saint Force imbued with the attribute of All-Encompassing Darkness onto the long red sword.
At the same time, Osiris’s figure exploded in a torrent of demonic energy so vast that his sheer might painted the skies in a chaotic reddish hue.
The air particles sizzled and screamed; Sophia grinned, unperturbed by the sheer display of power. Rather, it only made her excited, as her killing intent burst out in all of its malevolent glory.
They did not simply shoot out energy waves in their attack; rather, their two swords met directly.
A deafening explosion rocked the battlefield so greatly that the ground and skies trembled all the same.
A blinding radiance spread out from the point of impact.
Black vs Red..
All-Encompassing Darkness vs Demonic Energy...
The Valkyrie vs the Demon...
Both parties went all out in terms of physical might right on their first clash. Only applying basic reinforcement through their core energies onto the weapons, but not their whole bodies.
Their resolve to kill each other could not be any clearer.
The scale of destruction engulfed the entire battlefield and even reached the camps of both sides.
Countless gazes of weak and powerful, human and ghost alike were pinned to this one fight as if it was the central conflict at the core of this war.
Gradually, when the traces of destruction cleared, Sophia looked at the scene in disbelief.
Her own hands were bloodied and trembling.
Shock colored her beautiful face, as she mumbled, "I lost in a contest of physical strength?"
Meanwhile, no emotion could be discerned from the face of the demonic figure wearing the skull mask; only his red demonic eyes were visible, filled with cold resolution.
Osiris did not move back even a single inch from his position where the clash occurred. However, she did catch a slight tremble in his hand, which gripped the greatsword.
Sophia’s mind quickly spun. With her keen eyes, she began to analyze the figure before her with great attention. She finally realized something as her eyes widened.
The more she thought about it, the more she realized; the obvious clues only made her hypothesis feel truer. But she did not speak about it, rather only keeping her senses wary.
Sophia’s killing intent burst out once more as she growled, "Osiris, I will... kill you..."
The masked Osiris did not respond; he merely arched his giant sword backward, and as if readying himself to attack, he stated, "You’re not strong enough to kill me, Valkyrie..."
Then the demonic figure roared, "DEMONIC STARTFIRE CANON..."
With a thrust of his greatsword, violent, dark-red demonic flames shot out like a destructive beam, engulfing the figure of the Valkyrie.
Sophia, infuriated beyond reason, fought back against the calamitous waves of attack; she whispered the words like a heavenly decree: "Blade of the All-Encompassing Darkness...."
Even though Sophia’s battle against Osiris taking place in the skies was unmatched in terms of the scale of destruction.
There were countless other battles which were taking place even higher in the skies. All the peak 4th phase powerhouses from both sides of the army kept each other in check, while their powerful attacks constantly rumbled the heavens.
On the ground, previous enemies containing deep grievances met once more—this time, with the complete intention of resolving their enmity by killing their adversary.
The Golden Prince clashed against the Corrupted Elf.
The Arcane Adapter clashed against the Sin Amplifier.
The Transcendent Conjurer and his summons clashed against the four royal heirs of the Minor kingdoms.
Zen Karmann tied down Jaden Redmar, but this time the Karmann Duchy’s heir had complete intentions of demolishing his opponent. To prove his usefulness to the Demon of Despair.
This time, the members of the Demonic Armada did not hold back, because their Lord had ordered them to kill their enemies at all costs.
Because if the so-called main-cast, the Fated ones of this world, ended up dying at the hands of Osiris’s demonic thralls, then that only meant they were not so fated anymore. They had become useless.
So, in this final clash, no one knew who would come out alive and who would end up dead.
