Chapter 546: Flow of Fate
Chapter 546: Flow of Fate
After testing out the ability to rescue Conner and the other royal heirs, he had secretly placed the Circle of Dread right beneath the center of the battlefield before the start of the war.And as the war ravaged the lives of humans and ghosts alike. The sheer amount of negative emotions and vengeful souls that were collected by the circle became so great in quantity that it was terrifying.
So, when he stepped onto the battlefield, it was not Axel’s own energy that encompassed the whole battlefield, but a part of the power stored within the Circle of Dread, which made it seem like it was his own erupting demonic energy.
As for the titanic Death Worm, it was actually a special species of creature that only grew on the Ghost Island.
Gareth, by Axel’s orders, got multiple hatchling Death Worms from Zoromir, which his subordinate placed beneath the battlefield discreetly.
And Axel had continuously used a small part of the gathered negative power stored within the Circle of Dread to force the Death Worm’s growth through mental manipulation.
And it was also because the Death Worm’s growth had been forced that it was not as strong as it should have been; if the growth had been natural, it would have taken multiple centuries.
But a more daunting task for him was hiding the enormous creature’s presence. Even then, he was moderately sure that the sixth-phase existences could see through it.
Axel had a gnawing suspicion in his mind; the Sun King himself might have made sure that the Death Worm’s existence would remain hidden since Leonidas was scheming against the other two Great Kingdoms.
As for Axel using Fenrir, Wangnan was sent to defeat Enrick and immobilize the Ragnarok Beast in advance.
Axel himself only needed to feed the assimilator Wolf his demon flesh and blood.
That was more than enough for the creature to explode in immense demonic might.
Axel sighed as his mood became somber...
He had discovered something disturbing a few months back: no matter what he tried, he could not evolve his demon bloodline to the next major step. Axel had to become a full-blooded demon on his advancement to the third phase.
But the wall blocking his path seemed so colossal that it was nearly impossible to cross. The World Will was hellbent on not letting him advance.
From the total amount of power that had been stored within the Circle of Dread, only 1/10th had been used to grow the Death Worm forcefully. Then Axel had absorbed the rest from the circle while Sophia was busy fighting Fenrir.
Then another 1/10th had been used to advance his minions. Now, 8/10th of it remained inside him, unabsorbed.
But the most disturbing thing was that, even with the complete reservoir of power absorbed by the Circle of Dread from the war till now, this was not enough for his phase and bloodline advancement; it was not even close.
Which was why he needed to do something extremely drastic, a feat so nearly impossible that the World Will itself would be forced to give him exactly what he wanted.
Once that monumental feat was performed, it would gather a great amount of Flow of Fate upon him. The more noteworthy the feat he would perform as Osiris and Axel, the more this abstract flow of fate would gather unto him.
For example, Axel had provided the entire human army with rune weapons, so even without him personally stepping onto the battlefield, a significant amount of flow of fate had gathered up on him as ’Axel Nomrad’.
Then there were his actions as ’Osiris’, as well as every action taken by his demonic followers, which resulted in even more of the flow of fate gathering on him, more than what gathered on him as ’Axel’.
Because Osiris directly affected the very course of the war, Osiris’s use of the Death Worm and Demonized Fenrir also yielded great results.
Apart from gathering the largest amount of flow of fate upon him, he also had another objective. Making sure that Sophia would not get killed, obviously.
Because Axel was sure Zorormir had other powerful figures ready to kill Sophia, excluding Osiris. Another fact that he needed to be wary of.
Suddenly, Axel heard footsteps approaching as his trusted subordinate, Gareth, appeared atop the mountain. Standing beside him, Gareth said nothing and continued to look at the rising sun.
After a long stretch of silence.
Gareth brought out a special black box and placed it in front of Axel.
Axel opened the lid of the box with a hint of hesitation, and once he did so, he saw hundreds of squirming black worms, all of them screeching disturbingly.
If one looked closely, it could be seen that an incandescent, barely noticeable demon mark was on those small hatchling Death Worms, because they were all demonized and modified by Axel to directly be able to absorb negative energy from the Circle of Dread through that demonic mark, from an enormous distance.
With his control, the remaining 8/10th of the energy from the Circle of Dread resting within him was equally distributed to the hundreds of Death Worms. But it did not take effect immediately.
Axel closed the box once more and said to Gareth, "Well, you know what to do; there are only two days left till the war resumes. Please make haste."
There was a look of intense conflict on Gareth’s face as he picked up the black box and said, "Must we?... go so far...??"
Axel turned to him and said in an apologetic tone, "I’m sorry..."
Gareth chuckled in derision, an immense pain overflowing in his heart, for the sheer genocidal act they were about to commit, "I know... I know."
After that, Gareth said no more and left to do his job.
Axel’s apologetic look vanished, replaced by cold ruthlessness.
He touched a certain necklace hanging on his neck. He made this precious rune artifact to widen the range of the Circle of Dread by ten times and increase its absorption power by three times temporarily.
Everything was ready, and so was he. Maybe a part of him was afraid, and it was natural for him to be afraid, considering the daunting difficulty of the task ahead that he would have to pull off by the end of this war.
And there can be no error in it.
Otherwise, everything that he had worked for till now, all of it, would crumble as easily as a castle made of sand.
